Norwegian living in England, exploring beautiful places near and far.

I’m Anne-Marie, drawn to wild landscapes, gentle adventure, quiet beauty and places that feel both ancient and alive.

Since childhood, I have been captivated by nature, animals and the idea of faraway places. Every evening, I would ask my parents to read me adventure stories or retell their own travel tales, even if I had heard them countless times before. I would imagine myself being there in that moment, whether it was a dog barking at snakes in a tree in Africa or my mother running along Copacabana Beach after a boy who had stolen her purse. Those stories stayed with me. Wanderlust has always lived in me.

Perhaps it runs in the blood.

My grandfather once stood up during a medical school anatomy exam, walked out, and decided to become a pilot instead. Together with my grandmother, Anne-Marie, he travelled to places that were neither common nor easily accessible at the time, guided by curiosity rather than convention.

Every summer, my parents packed the car and took my brother and me on road trips across Europe to discover history, culture and landscapes with depth.

And long before that, my great-great-great-grandfather settled in the far Arctic north of Kirkenes in 1826, when almost nothing existed there. They travelled by reindeer, lived close to the elements, and he built his homestead with his own hands, only to rebuild it when the permafrost shifted. Exploration, nature and quiet resilience run in my family.

I have an academic background in psychology and a naturally analytical way of thinking. This shapes how I observe, reflect and write. On this blog, psychology appears as a quiet undercurrent.

This blog brings together:

  • thoughtful travel guides, often to lesser-known or overlooked places

  • travel rooted in culture and history

  • nature, wildlife and animals, always central, never incidental

  • beautifully designed spaces, architecture and aesthetics

  • craft and slow creativity, especially knitting

  • inspiring experiences, beyond the obvious and expected

I seek beauty in many forms:

  • the stillness of snow and sea

  • the warmth of a carefully chosen boutique hotel

  • architecture with character and age

  • a quiet knitting corner with wool and candlelight

  • a thoughtfully prepared meal, enjoyed somewhere remote and meaningful

You will often find me walking coastal paths, exploring wild places with my two beloved dogs, Fido and Charlie, or discovering intimate hotels, timeless buildings, cultural spaces and food that tells a story.

This is a space for those who love nature, culture, history, wild places, beautifully designed spaces and inspiring experiences and for those who are curious about the psychological side of travel.
